What's a Helix Piercing?

A helix piercing is an ear piercing that can be found anywhere on the upper ear cartilage. Because of its unique location, it is possible to wear both studs or captive bead rings. For those who are more adventurous, multiple piercings (the triple and double helix) can be tied together to create a more dramatic look. The outer helix is the most popular area for helix piercings.

What Size do I Need

1.Hoops:

The most common gauge for a helix piercing is 16 gauge, although some are done at 14 gauge instead. The hoop diameter you need depends on your anatomy and personal preference. If you piercing is closer to the edge of your ear and love the hoop to be snug, then a smaller diameter hoop will suit for you.

2.Bars:

The bar length you need will depend on your skin thickness and piercing location, 6mm or 8mm are usually recommended. For a short and snug fit, we recommend a 6mm length bar, if you have thicker cartilage or prefer to leave a bit of space either side then an 8mm may be better suited.

How to Measure Your Ear for Perfect Fit

Although there are recommended helix sizes, you need to measure your own ear since everyone’s ear is different. Follow the instruction and find the size perfect for you.

Hoops:

1.Use a ruler to measure distance from the hole to the edge of your ear.

2.Add 1mm for snug fitting and 2mm for loose fitting.

Bars:

1.Insert a standard earring post into your piercing.

2.Mark off on the post on where you want the earring post to fit.

3.Upon removing, measure that length with a ruler.

4.Go a little longer in length so you don’t put undue pressure on your piercing.
